Lorca Hart Quartet
Drummer Lorca Hart leads a quartet blending the classic jazz organ sound with contemporary explorations for an intimate evening at Mr. Tipple's. The West Coast drummer, son of jazz legend Billy Hart, has carved out his own distinctive voice through collaborations with artists like Ralph Moore, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, and Julian Lage.
Hart's quartet features Bay Area Hammond organist Brian Ho, who began playing piano at age five and developed his approach to the B3 through gospel music in an African American church. Ho has gained recognition as one of the Bay Area's first-call Hammond players, with Joey DeFrancesco noting he's "keeping the tradition alive...the future of jazz organ is in good hands."
Los Angeles-based guitarist Mike Scott brings his USC-trained musicianship and two decades of LA jazz scene experience, while versatile saxophonist Tony Peebles adds his multi-genre background spanning hard bop to Latin jazz, with credits including the Grammy Award-winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra and Fred Wesley.
The group performs what Hart calls "straight ahead standards rooted in the jazz organ sound" while exploring contemporary elements through original compositions and works by John Scofield, Joshua Redman, and Pat Metheny. This same lineup has previously performed as Hart's "Bridges Trio" with Peebles on saxophone, creating what audiences have described as a "very grooving jazz show" with Hart's "East Coast sound" and the rhythm section's vibrant interplay.
Mr. Tipple's intimate setting provides the perfect backdrop for this quartet's blend of tradition and innovation, where classic jazz organ grooves meet modern harmonic exploration.
