Micheal Mitchell Trio
Drummer Michael Mitchell brings his trio to Mr. Tipple's for two sets, joined by pianist Michael Potter and bassist Alan Jones. Mitchell is a versatile percussionist who has toured internationally with the Stanley Clarke Band since 2013 and shared stages with Herbie Hancock, Christian McBride, and Erykah Badu. His style blends bebop tradition with jazz fusion energy and hip-hop influences.
Mitchell began drumming at age two and studied jazz at Dallas's Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts before establishing himself as a rising force on the West Coast jazz scene. He's become a sought-after collaborator in the Bay Area, appearing on Steven Lugerner's In Solitude album with the SLUGish Ensemble — a project praised for its "lovely, dancing grooves" and satisfying interplay.
Bassist Alan Jones is an acclaimed Portland-based musician and educator whose four-decade career spans performances with Esperanza Spalding, Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz, and Dave Holland. He leads his own Alan Jones Sextet and founded the Alan Jones Academy of Music. His approach draws from hard bop, post-bop, and modal jazz traditions.
This trio configuration promises a fluid conversation between Mitchell's dynamic drumming, Jones's deep-pocket bass work, and Potter's keyboard contributions, exploring the interplay and spontaneity that define the jazz trio format.
