Fault Line Trio
Fault Line Trio brings sophisticated grooves that seamlessly blend jazz, funk, neo-soul, and R&B to The Dawn Club. Since forming in 2018, this San Francisco-based progressive jazz project has established itself as one of the Bay Area's most dynamic crossover acts, creating music that's intellectually engaging yet wonderfully accessible.
Led by multi-instrumentalist Jay Sanders on piano and keys, the trio includes bassist Lukas Vesely and drummer Brian Fishler. Sanders brings a quarter-century of Bay Area music scene experience, having studied with notable jazz educators Ray Brown and Dizzy Gillespie. His approach as a "melodic explorer" shows in the trio's sound — think Roy Hargrove wandering into a Herbie Hancock session, as one review described their debut album track "In2it."
Lukas Vesely, the Prague-born bassist with over 30 years of experience, has performed with jazz innovators like Grachan Moncur III, Alex Acuna, and Bob Moses, while also touring with major rock acts including The Fray and The Scorpions. His versatility across jazz, funk, and world music adds depth to the trio's rhythmic foundation. Drummer Brian Fishler, active in the New York jazz scene and experienced with ensembles like the George Gee Swing Orchestra, completes the rhythm section.
Expect layered synths stacking over tight drum breaks, with Sanders' muted trumpet lines cutting through like "neon light in the fog." Their music has that head-nodding swagger with cerebral calm — sophisticated grooves that work equally well for focused listening or letting the rhythm wash over you. The trio's sound lives somewhere between jazz and soul, creating what critics call "unpretentious" music that bridges intellectual musicianship with genuine accessibility.
This is music for both jazz heads and groove lovers, delivered by three accomplished musicians who understand how to make sophisticated sound inviting.
