Victor Little & Band

flamencoindianjazzblues

Chicago-born electric bassist Victor Little brings over 40 years of professional experience to Local Edition's stage, showcasing the versatility that has made him one of the Bay Area's most sought-after musicians. Little's career spans an impressive spectrum of styles—from blues and jazz to Indian and flamenco music—and his collaborators read like a who's who of American music: Patti Austin, Billy Preston, Angela Bofill, James Carter, Charlie Musselwhite, and Booker T. Jones.

Little grew up surrounded by music in Chicago, where his saxophonist father and church-playing family members shaped his early musical foundation. Radio icons like Aretha Franklin, Sly Stone, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, James Brown, and P-Funk provided his introduction to popular music, while bass legends James Jamerson, Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius, and Marcus Miller influenced his distinctive approach to the electric bass.

Expect to hear jazz-funk-fusion compositions drawn from Little's solo album Inner Portrait, which features collaborations with Grammy-winning musicians including drummers Dennis Chambers and Thomas Pridgen, and keyboardist Ruslan Sirota. Bass Musician Magazine praised the album for its "deep pocket, interesting and thoughtful compositions, absolutely wonderful soloing," calling it "one of the Bay Area's finest playing with some of the world's finest."

Little leads his group Big Hit and is also a member of Zenith Patrol alongside acclaimed musicians Paul Hanson and Thomas Pridgen. His recent singles—"Mariposa," "The Slump," "Chasing Time," and "Strange Times"—showcase his evolution as both performer and composer. Victor Wooten endorsed Little's work, noting his writing skills are "top notch" alongside his already established bass prowess.

With his impeccable time, taste, technique, and tone, Little delivers music that bridges traditional jazz with funk, fusion, and world music influences, creating an engaging experience that reflects his diverse musical journey from church pews to international stages.
