Verve Quintet

hard bop

The Verve Quintet brings the effervescent spirit of 1960s hard bop to The Dawn Club, led by the dynamic pairing of trumpeter Daniel Herrera and tenor saxophonist Andrew Dixon. This Bay Area ensemble has built a strong local following with their celebration of the Blue Note hard bop tradition, honoring jazz legends like Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Art Blakey, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Lee Morgan alongside their own original compositions.

Expect the classic hard bop sound that defined an era — driving rhythms, soulful horn lines, and the interplay between Herrera's trumpet and Dixon's tenor sax that creates what venues describe as "a unique and exciting sound." The quintet is rounded out by Aaron Germain on bass, Adam Klipple on piano, and JPaul Macklin on drums, forming a tight rhythm section that anchors the group's swinging approach.

The Verve Quintet represents a new generation carrying forward the hard bop torch, with their complementary musical stylings creating an authentic connection to the golden age of jazz while maintaining a fresh, contemporary edge. Their repertoire balances reverent interpretations of classics from the hard bop masters with original material that captures the same spirit and energy that made the 1960s such a defining decade for jazz.
