Vocalist, songwriter, and producer Veotis Latchison brings his explosive energy and innovative sound back to the Black Cat's intimate basement stage. Known for blending jazz, soul, R&B, and hip hop into what he calls "epic storytellings of a young man trying for better," Latchison draws inspiration from James Brown's raw energy, D'Angelo's groove, and Robert Glasper's harmonic sophistication. His 2023 album Minutiae showcases his knack for rhythm, passion, and storytelling, while recent singles like "Didn't Make Pretty" and "Spring" demonstrate his continued creative evolution.

Latchison's live performances are described as "more than a performance—expect an experience," with his unmistakable fire bringing "pure soul, story, and swagger" to the stage. One reviewer noted being "blown away" by his "early Billy Paul vibes, when he was a jazz fusion performer." His musical journey from gospel roots at New Hope Baptist Church to deep explorations of jazz and classical traditions has cultivated a style that's both nostalgic and refreshingly new.

Joining him is pianist Michael Potter, whose background in contemporary R&B and pop soul should complement Latchison's genre-blending approach perfectly. Drummer JC Grady brings her unique fusion of bebop and hard bop with influences from dance music and punk rock, while saxophonist Nico Colucci adds his expressive tone and stylistic versatility to the mix. Colucci, a San Francisco Conservatory graduate and YoungArts Honorable Mention recipient, has trained at prestigious programs like the Vail Jazz Workshop and Brubeck Jazz Summit.

Expect a blend of classic standards reimagined through Latchison's contemporary lens alongside original arrangements that showcase the quartet's dynamic interplay. The Black Cat's basement setting promises the intimacy perfect for experiencing Latchison's storytelling and the band's collective musical conversations.
