The Vince Lateano Trio brings six decades of San Francisco jazz history to Bird & Beckett as part of their ongoing residency at the Glen Park venue. Led by drummer Vince Lateano—a Sacramento native who has been a fixture on the city's jazz scene since arriving in 1966—the trio performs on the third Thursday of odd-numbered months as part of their regular schedule at the intimate bookstore.

Lateano's extensive resume includes touring and recording with jazz luminaries like Cal Tjader, Woody Herman, Vince Guaraldi, and Stan Getz. He served as house drummer at Jazz at Pearl's from 1990 to 2003 and has been a "genial force" in Bay Area jazz for nearly 60 years. The trio features veteran bassist Peter Barshay and pianist Ben Stolorow, creating what the venue describes as a "deep and pleasurable swing through jazz standards, bop, blues and bossa."

The trio's music draws from the full spectrum of jazz traditions—cool jazz, bebop, and post-bop—with a focus on standards and classic repertoire. Their performances at Bird & Beckett have been described as offering "nothing that gives us more pleasure," and they're known for welcoming both announced and surprise guest musicians who drop in to sit in.

Bird & Beckett Books and Records provides an intimate setting where audiences can experience live jazz surrounded by books, creating a unique atmosphere that combines literary culture with music. The venue emphasizes that "nothing beats being in the room with the music & the musicians," though they also livestream performances for remote viewers. The trio's regular residency schedule includes both formal performances and monthly jam sessions, making them central figures in the venue's vibrant jazz programming.

This performance continues Lateano's long association with Bird & Beckett, where he has appeared since the venue began presenting jazz in 1999.
