The Sergio Mendes Band: 60 Years of Brasil '66, the Legacy Lives

Sixty years after Brasil '66 made their worldwide debut, The Sergio Mendes Band carries forward the legacy of the late Brazilian maestro in this spirited celebration of his life and transformative musical impact. Led by vocalist Gracinha Leporace — Mendes' wife of many years and original band member — this revitalized seven-piece ensemble continues his lifelong mission of sharing the vibrant rhythms and infectious soul of Brazilian music.

The band blends timeless Brazilian grooves with fresh arrangements and uplifting energy, performing the bossa nova classics, Latin pop gems, and jazz collaborations that captivated global audiences for over six decades. Expect to hear beloved standards like "The Girl From Ipanema" and "One Note Samba" (both penned by Mendes' friend Antonio Carlos Jobim), alongside his Brasil '66 hits including samba-infused takes on The Beatles' "Fool On The Hill" and Burt Bacharach's "The Look Of Love."

Leporace shares vocal duties with Katie Hampton, while the rhythm section features Leo Costa on drums, Gibi dos Santos on percussion, Kleber Jorge on guitar and vocals, and Andre de Santanna on bass. Scott Mayo brings saxophone, flute, keyboards, and vocals, alongside pianist Jamieson Trotter. The performance typically builds to the euphoric signature tune "Mas Que Nada," which transforms the venue into a carnival-like celebration where audiences find themselves dancing in the aisles.

Reviews consistently describe Mendes' live performances as bringing "the sunshine and warmth of his native country's music" with a sound that "just made you feel good." His shows evoke "the sunny, open spirit of Brazilian life" and create an atmosphere where concertgoers experience the blissful, unifying power of his music. As Leporace explains, "This band embodies his spirit, joy, and deep love for Brazilian music," honoring Sergio's enduring message that music has the power to unite and uplift people from every part of the world.
