The Peter Horvath Trio

Budapest-born pianist Peter Horvath brings his contemporary jazz trio to Keys for an intimate evening of genre-blending artistry. Since beginning classical piano lessons at age six, Horvath has crafted a distinctive sound that merges funk jazz, Latin influences, and straight-ahead jazz traditions.

Horvath's impressive credentials span decades of collaboration with jazz luminaries including Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Henderson, Randy Brecker, Lenny White, Bob Mintzer, and Victor Bailey. After winning Hungary's National Jazz Combo Competition at 17, he studied at Vienna Conservatory and later Berklee College of Music before establishing himself on the international scene. His notable recording work includes tracks for Aretha Franklin's 1993 World Series National Anthem performance and David Garibaldi's critically acclaimed Warner Brothers series.

The pianist's solo albums Foreign Matter and Absolute Reality showcase his versatility, featuring everything from hard-hitting funk jazz with horns to Latin-tinged pieces and contemplative ballads. His debut Foreign Matter received substantial contemporary jazz radio airplay, reaching #1 on Gavin's Adult Alternative Chart in its first week. The follow-up Absolute Reality features an all-star cast including Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Victor Bailey, and Ray Obiedo, representing what critics describe as "a convergence of the musical diversity of the Bay Area with years of touring and recording with jazz greats."

Expect an evening that spans Horvath's diverse musical palette—from accessible, chrome-plated funk chord changes to sophisticated straight-ahead jazz explorations. His trio format allows for intimate musical conversations and deep improvisation, highlighting both his technical prowess and his ability to blend multiple genres seamlessly. This performance marks another chapter in Horvath's ongoing relationship with Keys Jazz Bistro, where he's frequently appeared as a sideman before stepping into the leader role with his San Francisco-based trio.
