The Peter Horvath Trio

trio

Hungarian-born pianist Peter Horvath brings his extensive recording and touring experience to Keys Jazz Bistro with his San Francisco-based trio. A classically trained musician who began studying piano at age six, Horvath attended the Bela Bartok Conservatory in Budapest before winning Hungary's National Jazz Combo Competition at 17. After studying at Vienna Conservatory and later Berklee College of Music in Boston, he moved to the U.S. and built an impressive career collaborating with jazz luminaries.

Horvath's musical palette spans contemporary jazz, Latin influences, and funk jazz, showcased on his albums Foreign Matter and Absolute Reality. His debut Foreign Matter received significant contemporary jazz radio airplay, charting as the #1 most added recording to Gavin's Adult Alternative Chart in its first week. Absolute Reality features collaborations with Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Victor Bailey, Lenny White, and other notable musicians, blending hard-hitting funk jazz with horns, Latin elements, straight-ahead jazz, and melodic ballads.

The depth of Horvath's experience shows in his extensive list of collaborators: jazz greats Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Henderson, Richie Cole, Ernie Watts, Eddie Henderson, Charles McPherson, Benny Maupin, Arturo Sandoval, Marcus Miller, Pee Wee Ellis Funk Assembly, and many others. He's also worked with R&B and soul artists including Lalah Hathaway, Melba Moore, Ledisi, and Keith Washington, bringing that soulful sensibility to his jazz work.

As a composer and keyboardist, Horvath contributed to David Garibaldi's critically acclaimed Warner Brothers video/CD series and recorded tracks for Aretha Franklin's performance of the National Anthem at the 1993 World Series. His "brand of piano soul" has been described as "light, accessible and glistening with chrome-plated funk chord changes."

Having frequently accompanied other artists at Keys Jazz Bistro, this performance marks one of his featured appearances as a leader with his trio, promising an evening of sophisticated contemporary jazz that draws from his diverse musical background and decades of experience with world-class musicians.
