THE Mike Olmos Quintet
Bay Area trumpet veteran Mike Olmos brings together an all-star quintet of local jazz masters for an intimate late-night set at Mr. Tipple's. With over 30 years of experience and credits ranging from Rosemary Clooney to the Jazz Mafia Hip Hop Symphony, Olmos has become one of the Bay Area's most in-demand players, known for his versatility across jazz, Latin, R&B, and soul.
Olmos leads on trumpet and flugelhorn alongside Rob Barics on reeds — a clarinetist and saxophonist who has performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under Wynton Marsalis and specializes in both traditional New Orleans jazz and contemporary styles. Grant Levin anchors the rhythm section on piano, a San Francisco-based composer and performer who has graced stages from SFJAZZ Center to Yoshi's and major Northern California festivals.
The bass chair is held by Isaac Coyle, a rising star and 2023 Berklee graduate who has quickly become one of the region's top emerging voices, collaborating nationally with Terri Lyne Carrington's Grammy-winning New Standards band. Shawn Myers rounds out the group on drums and percussion, bringing his deep knowledge of jazz, African diasporic music, and Haitian drumming traditions — he's performed and recorded with Grammy-winning artist Leyla McCalla.
Expect a musical conversation spanning bebop, Latin jazz, soul, and contemporary styles as these seasoned musicians draw from Olmos's broad stylistic palette. With his extensive performance history across Bay Area venues from The Fillmore to Yoshi's, and festival credits including Monterey Jazz Festival and San Francisco Jazz Festival, Olmos brings both technical mastery and the kind of stage presence that comes from decades of connecting with audiences.
The 10:30 PM set provides the perfect late-night atmosphere for this gathering of jazz veterans to explore their shared musical language in Mr. Tipple's intimate setting.
