The Humidors

The Humidors bring their infectious brand of Bay Area funk and soul to Mr. Tipple's with an eclectic supporting cast spanning multiple genres. This eight-piece ensemble has spent over a decade perfecting their "Gospel of Funk," combining hard-hitting funk, greasy soul, vintage R&B, and soul jazz into what they call "music for people who know their way around a dance floor."

Led by energetic vocals and featuring a tight horn section with baritone sax, The Humidors create an "infectious polyrhythmic stew" that pulls from old-school and modern influences while staying rooted in ego-less, ensemble-oriented playing. Their live shows are known for getting audiences moving, with one memorable performance where a fan climbed on stage and jumped into the keyboard player's lap during his solo — and he kept playing. The band has shared stages with Dumpstaphunk, The New Mastersounds, The Meters' Leo Nocentelli, and the late Bernie Worrell, establishing themselves as one of the West Coast's premier funk and soul acts.

The diverse supporting lineup adds experimental layers to the evening. Saxophonist and composer Patrick Cress brings his avant-garde sensibilities, spanning free jazz and electronic improvisation through his work with the ensemble Telepathy. The bill also features artists exploring everything from baroque pop and ambient electronics to synth-punk and contemporary R&B, creating an adventurous musical journey that reflects the Bay Area's genre-blending spirit.

Expect bursts of Hammond B3, punchy horns, chugging percussion, thumping bass, and burning guitar leads all weaving together in the kind of sweaty, soulful atmosphere that The Humidors chose their name to honor — "a sort of homage to the funky, soulful, sweaty dance floors we've been lucky enough to be a part of."
