Terence Blanchard & Ravi Coltrane

Two generations of jazz excellence unite to honor the 2026 centennials of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, celebrating their groundbreaking partnership in Miles's legendary First Great Quintet. Grammy-winning trumpeter Terence Blanchard joins forces with acclaimed saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, son of John Coltrane, for an evening that bridges past and present.

Blanchard, a New Orleans master who emerged from Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, brings his commanding trumpet voice and cinematic storytelling sensibility. Known for his work with filmmaker Spike Lee and his powerful compositions addressing social justice, Blanchard's performances are described as having "larger-than-life trumpet" presence with "no filler notes" – every sound in service of the story. His virtuosic improvisations combine passionate high notes, blues throughlines, and a rich, potent tone that fills venues from note one.

Ravi Coltrane represents the continuation of a sacred lineage while carving his own distinctive path. The Grammy-nominated saxophonist and bandleader has spent 30+ years developing a forward-thinking voice that honors but transcends his famous parents' legacy. His tenor and soprano saxophone work spans modal jazz, post-bop, and contemporary explorations.

They're joined by an exceptional rhythm section featuring Bay Area guitarist Charles Altura, known for his melodic fluidity and collaborations with jazz luminaries; keyboardist Julian 'J3PO' Pollack, who blends jazz with electronic and fusion elements; bassist David Ginyard Jr., a longtime Blanchard collaborator; and drummer Oscar Seaton, whose extensive credits include work with Ramsey Lewis and George Benson.

This centennial celebration promises an evening of musical dialogue between two masters, exploring the revolutionary spirit of Miles and Coltrane's partnership through contemporary voices. Blanchard's performances are noted for their cinematic flow, emotional depth, and social consciousness, while his interplay with fellow musicians creates spine-tingling drama. Expect modal explorations, post-bop innovations, and the kind of musical storytelling that honors jazz's greatest while pushing toward its future.
