Simon Rowe Organ Trio

Hammond B3 organist Simon Rowe, director of the Brubeck Institute at the University of the Pacific, brings his 'Transcendent Trio' to Keys Jazz Bistro for another edition of his late-night Saturday organ trio showcases. Formed during a pandemic-era "Jazz on the Patio" residency, the trio specializes in blues, bebop, and ballads, with Rowe's signature Hammond organ work backed by guitarist Dave Macnab and the "ebullient" Brian Fishler on drums.

Rowe has been showcasing the best of the Bay Area's organ trios in his regular late-night sets at Keys Jazz Bistro, where he's also an owner. The trio delivers what they promise as "Blues, Bebop, Ballads and Banter" — cruising through jazz standards with the smooth soft-calliope sounds of the legendary Hammond B3. Previous performances have featured classics like "If I were a Bell," "Darn That Dream," "Sweet and Lovely," and "Tyrone."

The Hammond B3 organ trio format brings that classic jazz club energy with its deep, soulful tones and rhythmic grooves. Rowe's experience includes pandemic-era performances helping raise funds for Bird & Beckett bookstore, and he's known for his work in both intimate venues and outdoor "Jazz on the Patio" settings. The late-night slot — keeping folks up past 10 pm in SF, as they say, "is no easy feat" — promises an authentic late-night jazz club experience with the warm, vintage sounds of the Hammond organ at the center.
