Patrick Wolff's "Swinging Organ" Quartet

Saxophonist Patrick Wolff presents his "Swinging Organ Quartet" at Keys Jazz Bistro, featuring organist Adam Shulman, guitarist Jack Tone Riordan, and drummer Miles Turk. Drawing from Wolff's extensive work in organ trio settings around the Bay Area, this quartet embraces the classic sound of Hammond B3 jazz with swinging energy and deep musical conversation.

Wolff brings his lyrical saxophone approach and embrace of the full jazz lineage to the organ format. A veteran of both New York and San Francisco jazz scenes, he's performed with jazz greats including Albert "Tootie" Heath, Matt Wilson, and Grant Stewart, while releasing six albums as a bandleader. His playing has been characterized by a focus on melody and a commitment to both bebop traditions and original compositions.

The Hammond B3 organ sound anchors this performance, with Shulman providing the swinging foundation that defines the format. Jack Tone Riordan's guitar work adds harmonic color and rhythmic drive, while Miles Turk's drumming completes what Wolff calls "a top shelf band of swinging cats."

Wolff describes his organ trio performances as "smoking" affairs with "a beautiful venue with some serious SF Jazz history credentials." The format allows for the interactive, conversational quality that makes organ jazz so compelling — the organist's bass lines, chord voicings, and melody all weaving together with saxophone, guitar, and drums in a dynamic musical exchange.

Keys Jazz Bistro's intimate 125-seat room, anchored by both a Yamaha grand piano and Hammond B3 organ, provides the perfect setting for this classic jazz quartet configuration. As Wolff notes, Keys is "one of the best listening rooms the Bay has ever known" with "great food and drink in the heart of North Beach."
