Jazz bassist Ollie Dudek brings his mastery of the Great American Songbook to JAX Vineyards, leading a trio through immortal standards made famous by jazz titans Charles Mingus, Ray Brown, Paul Chambers, and Scott LaFaro. With a BA in Jazz Performance from the California Jazz Conservatory and extensive study in the musical scenes of New Orleans, New York, Cuba, and Brazil, Dudek has established himself as a versatile artist spanning hard bop, Afro-Cuban jazz, bebop, and swing.

A regular at top Bay Area venues including Yoshi's, Black Cat, Bird & Beckett, and the Fillmore Jazz Festival, Dudek is known for his rich tone, inventive improvisation, and indelible swing. His deep dive into the compositions of the great bass players — from Jimmy Blanton to Oscar Pettiford — showcases his reverence for jazz tradition while bringing fresh interpretation to classic material.

The performance takes place in JAX Vineyards' stylish SoMa tasting room, which blends award-winning wines with the Bay Area's creative energy. As part of their "Jax Jams" series, the venue creates an intimate setting where jazz and wine culture intersect. The evening promises a captivating journey through standards that have defined jazz bass playing, performed by musicians who understand both the technical demands and soulful essence of this repertoire.

This free concert is co-sponsored by Jazz in the Neighborhood, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the economics of jazz performance in the Bay Area by presenting affordable concerts and supporting established and aspiring jazz artists. With doors opening at 4:00 PM and music starting at 5:30 PM, it's a first-come, first-served affair that encourages early arrival for the best experience.

Dudek's commitment to preserving and advancing jazz tradition, combined with his international musical education and proven performance pedigree, makes this an opportunity to hear accomplished musicianship in an accessible, welcoming environment. For those who appreciate the foundational works of jazz bass and the continuing vitality of the Great American Songbook, this trio performance offers both technical excellence and musical passion.
