Mike Olmos Ensemble

The Mike Olmos Ensemble brings together five virtuosic Bay Area musicians for an evening spanning jazz, Latin, electronic, and post-bop sounds. Led by Mike Olmos, a seasoned trumpeter and flugelhorn player with over 30 years of experience, the ensemble explores diverse musical territories from bebop standards to experimental compositions.

Olmos, who toured with vocalist Rosemary Clooney during his college years and has since established himself across jazz, Latin, R&B, and soul genres, leads this quintet featuring some of the Bay Area's most creative artists. Danny Lubin-Laden brings his trombone expertise, honed through studies with Art Baron and Lee Konitz at The New School, and his experience with Scott Amendola's JACKNIFE and the Electric Squeezebox Orchestra.

Tenor saxophonist Raffi Garabedian adds his atmospheric post-bop approach, creating "sonic atmospheres through spontaneous composition" as showcased on albums like Melodies in Silence and The Crazy Dog. Berklee graduate Henry Plumb commands the drums with versatility across swing, fusion, funk, and Latin styles, drawing from his work with Jazz Mafia and the Kyle Athayde Dance Party.

Rounding out the group is Jonathan Seiberlich, whose tuba work bridges New Orleans brass band traditions with classical composition and improvisation. His unique approach—blending his roles with the San Francisco Symphony and Jazz Mafia collective—promises to add unexpected depth to the ensemble's sound.

Expected repertoire spans Olmos's compositions alongside works from the group members, potentially exploring everything from bebop intricacies to Latin rhythms and contemporary jazz expressions. With this caliber of musicians, expect sophisticated interplay, dynamic solos, and the kind of musical conversation that makes each performance unique.
