Mikailo Kasha Quartet
Award-winning bassist and composer Mikailo Kasha brings his quartet to The Sound Room for an evening of contemporary jazz. Recognized as among "the top 1% of bassists worldwide" by Count Basie Orchestra's Scotty Barnhart, Kasha is a three-time DownBeat student award winner who earned the 2022 "Jazz Soloist" award in the graduate division. A dynamic bandleader and versatile sideman equally adept on upright and electric bass, he's a product of prestigious Bay Area jazz programs including SFJAZZ High School All-Stars and the Stanford Jazz Institute.
Kasha has assembled a stellar group featuring vibraphonist Jalen Baker, pianist Tal Cohen, and drummer Anthony Fung. This quartet formation showcases a sophisticated instrumental palette, with Baker's vibraphone adding shimmering textures and harmonic depth to the traditional piano trio foundation.
Beyond his performance prowess, Kasha serves as Executive Director of the Miami Jazz Cooperative and teaches at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, reflecting his deep commitment to jazz education and community leadership. Expect polished musicianship and thoughtful ensemble interplay from these accomplished players.
