Drummer and bandleader Guilhem Fourty brings his quartet to Oakland featuring rising trumpet star Skylar Tang, in a showcase of contemporary jazz that spans from Afro-Caribbean rhythms to modern global influences. Fourty, a Berklee graduate who has performed with jazz luminaries including Miguel Zenón and Danilo Pérez, is recognized as an emerging leader in contemporary jazz with performances at major festivals including the Detroit Jazz Festival and London Jazz Fest.

Fourty is not only a drummer who keeps impeccable time—he's a leader shaping sound and structure, moving with ease from neighborhood clubs to the world's largest jazz festivals. His quartet has been headlining venues across the country, from Boston's Wally's Cafe Jazz Club to New York's Williamsburg Music Center, building a reputation for dynamic performances that blend written complexity with open improvisation.

Joining Fourty is Bay Area trumpeter and composer Skylar Tang, a multidisciplinary musician known for her dynamic playing and profound compositions. Tang has emerged as a bright young voice in the international scene and was featured on Joshua Redman's latest album, Words Fall Short. She recently completed a 2-month residency in Japan at Expo 2025, Osaka, and now divides her time between studying at Columbia University and The Juilliard School.

The quartet rounds out with pianist Hannah Mayer—a recent Peabody Institute graduate and El Cerrito native who has performed with Betty Carter's Jazz Ahead and NYO Jazz—and bassist Aidan McCarthy. Expect music that draws from Fourty's global jazz sensibilities, blending traditional elements with modern approaches, all anchored by his precise yet expansive rhythmic vision.
