Gabriel Schillinger-Hyman Quartet
The Gabriel Schillinger-Hyman Quartet brings accomplished jazz piano artistry to Mr. Tipple's intimate recording studio setting. Manhattan School of Music-trained pianist Gabriel Schillinger-Hyman leads this ensemble of Bay Area jazz talent, combining his classical foundation with explorations across jazz, hip-hop, gospel, reggae, and Latin genres.
Schillinger-Hyman is a Steinway & Sons teacher who has graced stages from Carnegie Hall to top NYC jazz venues like Zinc Bar, collaborating with Grammy-winning musicians. His playing weaves together influences from Bill Evans, Chick Corea, and Ahmad Jamal, as evidenced in his live performance videos featuring interpretations of jazz standards and original compositions.
Joining him is Bay Area alto saxophonist John Palowitch, known for his innovative use of guitar pedals and effects with his instrument. A University of Miami Frost School graduate, Palowitch brings jazz fusion and progressive R&B elements to the quartet's sound and is a key member of Thomas Pridgen's progressive fusion group BIG TRIPPIN.
The rhythm section features bassist Isaac Coyle, a 2023 Berklee College graduate who has quickly become one of the Bay Area's top emerging jazz voices. Coyle is a frequent collaborator with Terri Lyne Carrington's Grammy-winning New Standards band, bringing contemporary jazz and post-bop sensibilities.
On drums is Michael Mitchell, a Dallas-born musician who has toured internationally with the Stanley Clarke Band since 2013. His extensive credits include performances with jazz legends Herbie Hancock, Christian McBride, and Erykah Badu, bringing bebop precision and jazz fusion energy to the ensemble.
The quartet's sound blends traditional jazz piano trio dynamics with contemporary elements, incorporating the experimental textures of Palowitch's effects-processed saxophone and the rhythmic sophistication of Mitchell's fusion background. Expect to hear original compositions alongside creative interpretations of jazz standards, all delivered in Mr. Tipple's uniquely intimate atmosphere where audiences can experience the music up close.
