Cyril Guiraud Quartet

French-born saxophonist Cyril Guiraud brings his warm tone and adventurous improvisation to Mr. Tipple's intimate recording studio space. Known for bridging classic European elegance with the experimental energy of the San Francisco jazz scene, Guiraud moves effortlessly between swing, modern jazz, and global textures.

Guiraud's impressive resume includes collaborations with Michel Petrucciani, Kenny Garrett, George Clinton, and Mark de Clive-Lowe, with performances at SF Jazz, Monterey Jazz Festival, and Stern Grove Festival. The saxophonist, who also plays flute and bass clarinet, is currently preparing his upcoming trio album "Outer Reach" inspired by Sonny Rollins' "East Broadway Run Down."

Joining Guiraud are his frequent collaborators: Brother Ruckus on drums and Gary Johnson on bass—the same rhythm section featured on his forthcoming album—plus pianist Jonah Levine. This quartet formation allows Guiraud to explore both his acoustic jazz roots and his more experimental tendencies, drawing from his work with innovative electroacoustic projects and his role as co-founder of the doubleOone record label.

Expect to hear Guiraud's signature sound that seamlessly blends jazz tradition with contemporary influences, showcasing his lyrical phrasing on tenor and soprano saxophone. His performances are known for their sophisticated interplay between composition and improvisation, reflecting both his European musical heritage and his deep engagement with the Bay Area's creative jazz community.
