Saxophone master Brad Leali returns to The Sound Room with Grammy-nominated vocalist Carla Helmbrecht for another compelling evening of sophisticated jazz. The venue has featured this collaboration before and is "SO excited to have them back," highlighting the magnetic chemistry between these two accomplished artists.

Leali brings a soulful, blues- and swing-influenced style that reflects his impressive pedigree. The saxophonist has toured and recorded with the Harry Connick Jr. Orchestra and Count Basie Orchestra, was a standing member of the Kennedy Center Honors Band, and performed for President Obama's inaugural celebration. Currently professor of jazz saxophone at the University of North Texas and a featured soloist with Lyle Lovett & His Large Band, Leali draws praise for his "sparkling and Cannonball Adderley influenced" solos. The New York Times called him "among the most soulful and exciting" saxophonists they'd heard recently.

Helmbrecht's vocal approach is described as "imaginative, poetic and sophisticated" by JazzTimes, with "impeccable phrasing" and a "swinging jazz sensibility that reminds me of Mel Torme," according to R&R Magazine. Her dual background in music and Speech Pathology gives her a unique understanding of vocal expression. Drawing inspiration from Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Julie London, Shirley Horn, Nancy Wilson, and Blossom Dearie, she brings both technical precision and emotional depth to her performances. Critics note she "exudes warmth in spades" and is "hip without being frenetic, laid-back without sounding haphazard."

Together, they explore classic jazz standards and original material, infusing historical and modern components into their unique arrangements. Helmbrecht's sophisticated vocal stylings complement Leali's soulful saxophone work perfectly, creating what venues describe as a "dynamic duo." The quartet will be backed by a world-class rhythm section, completing an ensemble that promises both technical excellence and musical storytelling.
