Kronos Quartet: A celebration of Pete Seeger

  • SFJAZZ Miner Auditorium 201 Franklin Street San Francisco, CA, 94102 United States (map)

Tickets ($20-$65)

Kronos Festival 2019 closes with a celebration of Pete Seeger, who would have turned 100 in May. Kronos performs songs the folk icon and social activist popularized with folk artists Sam Amidon and Lee Knight, and singer-songwriter Meklit Hadero, among others. Amidon also joins Kronos for a set of songs that include his contributions to Kronos’ Folk Songs album. Malian singer Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté returns to the Festival to premiere her composition written for Kronos’ Fifty for the Future education initiative. She is joined by artist-in-residence Valérie Sainte-Agathe and the San Francisco Girls Chorus, who also perform Aleksander Kościów’s meditative Hílathi.

For more than 40 years, San Francisco’s Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet has reimagined and redefined the string quartet experience. Kronos’ fourth annual hometown music festival highlights new and recent collaborations with incredible guests performing in six concerts over three days.

The quartet remains as geographically, politically and spiritually feisty as ever. Forget about genre; Kronos made that an irrelevant term ages ago.
— Los Angeles Times
The Kronos Quartet elevated a concert of music to a spiritual trip through our common humanity – it was universal, all-encompassing, fabulously inclusive.
