At 34, Havana-born, Miami-raised pianist and composer Almazan has amassed the résumé and critical acclaim of an artist twice his age, bridging the worlds of jazz and classical with a deft acuity. He has been a decade-long member of trumpeter Terence Blanchard’s various working bands and is current pianist with drummer Mark Guiliana’s lauded Jazz Quartet. Almazan’s most recent album, Alcanza, features Linda May Han Oh and drummer Henry Cole augmented by strings, electronics, and percussion.
An artist who has earned accolades around the jazz world, including a #1 Acoustic Bass Rising Star nod from DownBeat magazine’s Critics Poll, Malaysia-born bassist and composer Linda May Han Oh is one of the most important young voices in jazz today. She has racked up a stunning résumé, working with Vijay Iyer, Kenny Barron, Geri Allen, Joe Lovano, and Terri Lyne Carrington before completing the newest quartet fronted by guitarist Pat Metheny. Oh’s debut album Entry, featured Akinmusire and SFJAZZ Collective drummer Obed Calvaire, and her latest, Walk Against Wind, includes Kneebody saxophonist Ben Wendel and Almazan.
