Kendrick Scott Oracle

Kendrick Scott is drummer conversant in an ultramodern sense of propulsion, and…he’s a thoughtful composer as well.

Tickets ($35)

Kendrick is not just a timekeeper, he is a musician with big ears and a great imagination.
— Herbie Hancock

Named one of the “Five Drummers Whose Time Is Now” by The New York Times, the Houston-raised Scott is a prodigious musician, composer and bandleader can often be found on the road with former SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director Terence Blanchard, guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, vocalists Kurt Elling and Gretchen Parlato, saxophone master Joshua Redman, and most recently, the Blue Note All-Stars.

Featuring:
Kendrick Scott drums
John Ellis saxophones
Mike Moreno guitar
Taylor Eigsti piano
Joe Sanders bass

A graduate of the same performing arts high school that nurtured Jason Moran, Robert Glasper and Eric Harland, Scott is a consummate musician whose jaw-dropping power behind the drums is matched only by his matchless finesse. He’s released several praised albums with Oracle exploring his own spiritually charged compositions, featuring his working unit of saxophonist John Ellis, guitarist Mike Moreno, Bay Area-raised piano maestro Taylor Eigsti, and bassist Joe Sanders. These performances in the Joe Henderson Lab mark the release of Scott’s new Oracle recording, the follow-up to his 2015 Blue Note debut We Are the Drum. If you are curious what the state of the art of modern jazz looks like, this is it!
