Continuing the family legacy of mixing Brazilian music with jazz and pop music styles, Eyedentity was founded by vocalist Diana Purim, daughter of percussion legend Airto Moreira and iconic vocalist Flora Purim, and percussionist/rapper Krishna Booker, son of longtime Cannonball Adderley bassist Walter Booker and nephew of Wayne Shorter.

Almario is a master of dynamics, building his solos from reserved, almost humble beginnings into assertive climaxes that are exhausting in their strengths.

Named for Moreira’s classic 1975 album, Identity, the band blends neo-soul, funk, hip-hop and electronic music with deep samba grooves and jazz-steeped improvisation. Purim and Booker performed with Moreira as part of the 2018 SFJAZZ Gala honoring Preservation Hall, and they return to celebrate the release of their new album, Many Bodies, One Mind, an inspired new project featuring appearances by Herbie Hancock, Moreira, the late George Duke, and Colombian-born saxophone great Justo Almario, who joins them for this date. A longtime collaborator with Latin jazz giant Mongo Santamaria, Almario is a respected bandleader and veteran of work with Pete Escovedo, Roy Ayers, Poncho Sanchez, and James Moody. More than a band, Eyedentity represents the passing of the torch within the rich Brazilian music tradition — from jazz and samba to hip-hop, from older generation to younger generation, from father to daughter, and father to son.
