Kronos Festival 2018 closes with the return of two more festival favorites: the vibrant and expressive San Francisco Girls Chorus, which joins Kronos Quartet to debut a new work by longtime Kronos collaborator Aleksandra Vrebalov, and the masterful performer of Vietnamese traditional instruments Vân-Ánh Võ. Kronos gives the local premiere of Oakland-based composer Zachary Watkins’s Peace Be Till, which is inspired by the moment Mahalia Jackson prompted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to go off script during his “I Have a Dream” speech. Kronos is also joined by artist-in-residence David Coulter to play music from his award-winning soundtrack to A.C.T.’s theatrical production of A Thousand Splendid Suns. More details to be announced, check below for up-to-date program information.
For more than 40 years, San Francisco’s Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet has reimagined and redefined the string quartet experience. Kronos’ fourth annual hometown music festival highlights new and recent collaborations with incredible guests performing in six concerts over three days.
