Kronos Quartet and Malian griot ensemble Trio Da Kali perform together for the first time since the release of their joint album Ladilikan last fall. The LP not only topped several year-end best-of lists, including Songlines, fRoots, and the Transglobal World Music Chart, but also inspired Afropop Worldwide to call the collaboration “the most successful encounter between Western classical and traditional African music yet.” Kronos debuts both an exciting project with genre-bending singer-songwriter Jolie Holland and a unique work by local experimental composer, sonic architect and performance artist Guillermo Galindo. Philip Glass’ most recent string quartet also receives its local premiere. More details to be announced, check below for up-to-date program information.
For more than 40 years, San Francisco’s Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet has reimagined and redefined the string quartet experience. Kronos’ fourth annual hometown music festival highlights new and recent collaborations with incredible guests performing in six concerts over three days.
