Kronos Quartet w/ Zakir Hussain

  • SFJAZZ Miner Auditorium 201 Franklin Street San Francisco, CA, 94102 United States (map)

Tickets ($20-$65)

To kick off Kronos Festival 2018, Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain and Persian singer Mahsa Vahdat each join Kronos Quartet on stage – Hussain to premiere his Pallavi, and Vahdat to follow up her “riveting” 2017 performance, which was singled out by the Chronicle as the “evening’s real splendor.” Kronos and the experimental duo CocoRosie come together for the first time to debut a new project. Festival artist-in-residence David Coulter and Kronos pay tribute to the memory of musician Ralph Carney with a performance of his Lament for Charleston. Kronos also plays a recent work by Egyptian electro-chaabi pioneer Islam Chipsy. More details to be announced, check below for up-to-date program information.

The quartet remains as geographically, politically and spiritually feisty as ever. Forget about genre; Kronos made that an irrelevant term ages ago.
