A protégé of Prince, the Nashville singer-pianist combines old-soul jazz sophistication with a tasteful touch of R&B and pop.

Springs counts such stylists as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Roberta Flack and Norah Jones as her heroes but mimics none of them. Instead Springs allows her comely alto to become a conduit that touches upon soul, jazz and pop while transforming those aforementioned influences into a personalized sound that reveals itself effortlessly. She released a startlingly beautiful 2016 debut album on Blue Note, Soul Eyes, produced by GRAMMY-winning studio wizard Larry Klein (whose credits include albums by Lizz Wright, Melody Gardot, Joni Mitchell, and Herbie Hancock).

Springs first gained national attention with her 2014 self-titled EP, a hip-hop inflected project that led to performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, appearances at the Afropunk and Bonnaroo festivals, and a performance with Prince at Paisley Park for the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain. While elated by these opportunities, she started rethinking her musical direction and  gravitated toward the jazz and soul-based sounds of her Nashville upbringing. Working with Klein, she honed a set of transparently textured songs featuring her lustrous voice and deft piano accompanied by heavyweight players such as Terence Blanchard, guitarist Dean Parks, and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta.

Mentored by Prince, the Nashville-born Springs studied the greats-Ella, Billie, Nina-but has emerged with a unique pop-jazz sound that owes no debts.
