Emi Makabe Quartet

Japanese composer, vocalist, and shamisen player based in New York City whose music blends jazz with Japanese folk influences, classical elements, and improvisation. Born in Chiba, Japan, Makabe moved to New York in 2008 and earned degrees from City College of New York and Aaron Copland School of Music, performing at renowned venues across New York, Europe, and Japan with her quartet and collaborators including Bill Frisell and Jason Moran.
