Tomoko Funaki

Tomoko Funaki is a jazz bassist and bandleader based in San Francisco who was born in Japan into a musical family. Originally classically trained on violin and flute, she relocated to San Francisco in 2002 to study upright bass and quickly became immersed in the local jazz scene, studying with luminaries including Ray Drummond, Rufus Reid, and performing with the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra. She is an active performer and educator involved with Stanford Jazz Workshop, SFJAZZ Education, and other jazz education programs.
