Berkeley-based bassist, composer, and bandleader Kurt Ribak leads The Kurt Ribak Trio, blending bebop sophistication with groove-oriented compositions influenced by Charles Mingus, The Meters, Duke Ellington, and Thelonious Monk. After studying at UC Berkeley and Berklee College of Music, Ribak established himself as a respected creative force on the Bay Area jazz scene, and following a serious 2012 car accident, made a remarkable recovery to continue performing and recording.
