Richard Saunders is an acoustic bassist born in New York City in 1945 who has been active in the San Francisco Bay Area jazz and new music scene since 1964. He has performed and recorded with notable jazz artists including Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Eddie Jefferson, and Jessica Williams, while also maintaining a broad musical practice spanning jazz, classical, early music, and folk traditions. Currently on faculty at the San Francisco Community Music Center, Saunders is also known for his work with Klez-X (formerly San Francisco Klezmer Experience).
