Grammy-winning conguero and bandleader Poncho Sanchez is one of the most influential Latin jazz percussionists of the modern era. Born in Laredo, Texas in 1951 and raised in Los Angeles, he has spent over four decades blending straightahead jazz, soul, and Afro-Cuban rhythms while honoring the legacy of mentors like Cal Tjader, Mongo Santamaria, and Tito Puente.
