Michael Carvin is an American jazz drummer born in Houston, Texas in 1944 who gained prominence after joining Freddie Hubbard's band in 1973 and moving to New York City. Known as one of the most formidable and versatile drummers on the jazz scene, he has recorded on over 250 albums with legends including Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Jackie McLean, McCoy Tyner, and Pharoah Sanders, while also establishing himself as a highly influential educator through his School of Drumming.
