Marina Lavalle is an important figure in the resurgence of Afro-Peruvian music and one of the most distinctive performers in the Bay Area. She was the lead vocalist for Peru Negro Cultural Association during the 1970s and nurtures a carefully crafted blend of contemporary and traditional sounds, performing genres such as landó, festejo, bolero, zamacueca, and valse.
