Marcos Varela is a master of both acoustic and electric bass regarded as one of the most well-respected bass musicians in the American and international jazz scene. Beginning his career at age 17 in Houston, Texas, he quickly gained recognition and has since collaborated with jazz legends including Billy Hart, The Mingus Big Band, Jason Moran, and Geri Allen. He leads his own projects, composes for film and television, and teaches at The New School and Montclair State University.
