Jonathan Finlayson

Trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Jonathan Finlayson was born and raised in Oakland, California. After mentorship with Robert Porter, he joined Steve Coleman's Five Elements and completed his BFA at The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in 2005. A distinctive voice in New York's creative music community, he has performed and recorded with Muhal Richard Abrams, Henry Threadgill, Steve Lehman, Mary Halvorson, and Vijay Iyer, releasing three critically acclaimed albums with PI Recordings.
