Joe Bataan

Joe Bataan (1942–2024) was a pioneering Latin soul artist born in Spanish Harlem to an African-American mother and Filipino father. He created an innovative fusion of Latin rhythms with doo-wop and R&B vocals, earning the title 'King of Latin Soul' and helping to define the genre through his work with Fania Records and his own Ghetto Records label in the late 1960s and 1970s.
