Born in Minneapolis in 1954, Jeff Johnson is a versatile jazz bassist who left his hometown at age 20 and has collaborated with jazz legends including Philly Joe Jones, Chet Baker, and Lew Tabackin. Since settling in Seattle in 1990, Johnson has become a cornerstone of the Pacific Northwest jazz scene, particularly known for his pioneering work with pianist Hal Galper's revolutionary rubato trio and his compositions that blend spiritual depth with inventive harmonic exploration.
