Howard Wiley

Oakland-born tenor saxophonist Howard Wiley is a soulful improviser and Resident Artistic Director at SFJAZZ who has sustained a nearly 30-year career in the Bay Area jazz scene. An ex-prodigy who recorded his first album at age 15, Wiley is known for his fiery, muscular tone and deep reverence for both jazz history and the Black church tradition that shaped his musical foundation.
