Longtime violist of the Kronos Quartet, Hank Dutt has been a major figure in expanding the role of the viola in contemporary chamber music since joining the ensemble in 1977. Born in Muscatine, Iowa in 1952 and trained at Indiana University, Dutt has participated in over 1,100 commissioned works and arrangements with Kronos, collaborating with composers ranging from minimalists like Steve Reich and Philip Glass to contemporary artists like Terry Riley.
